THK Co., Ltd. is a Japanese manufacturer of linear motion components, founded in Tokyo in 1971 by Hiroshi Teramachi. In 1972 the company became the first in the world to develop and commercialize the Linear Motion Guide, or LM Guide, which replaces sliding friction with circulating steel balls to achieve highly precise, repeatable linear movement.
The LM Guide remains THK's flagship product line and is one of the most widely recognized names in linear motion. The broader program includes ball screws, ball splines and LM Guide actuators, components frequently combined to build complete linear axes. Teramachi's angular ball spline of 1971 was an early milestone on the way to the LM Guide.
THK components are used in machine tools, industrial robots, semiconductor production equipment and other precision machinery, and the company also supplies guides for rail and transport applications.
