About BERU
BERU is a German ignition-technology brand whose history dates back to 1912, when Julius Behr and Albert Ruprecht founded a spark plug factory. In 1929 the company began developing glow plugs for cold-starting diesel engines, and diesel cold-start technology has remained a core competence ever since. BERU is today a registered trademark of BorgWarner, which continues the brand for ignition and cold-start products.
The product program centers on glow plugs, glow plug control units, ignition coils and spark plugs. Milestones include rapid glow plugs introduced in 1975 that shortened preheating times, and later dual-coil designs that reduced preheating to a few seconds. BorgWarner maintains a dedicated BERU aftermarket catalog covering these product groups.
BERU components are fitted in passenger cars and commercial vehicles and are widely used in the independent automotive aftermarket for diesel cold-start and gasoline ignition systems.
