WEG is a Brazilian electrical engineering group founded on 16 September 1961 in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, by Werner Ricardo Voigt, Eggon Joao da Silva and Geraldo Werninghaus; the company name is an acronym of the founders' names. Originally established as Eletromotores Jaragua, it has grown into one of the world's largest manufacturers of electric motors, with operations in around 140 countries and roughly 40,000 employees.
The product portfolio covers low- and high-power electric motors, variable frequency drives, soft starters, controls and automation panels, generators, alternators, transformers, turbines and battery energy storage systems, alongside industrial coatings. WEG positions these as an integrated line, so motors, drives and switchgear can be sourced as matched packages.
WEG equipment is applied across general industry, water, mining, oil and gas, and power generation, from single standard motors to complete electrical systems.
