Ross Hill Controls was a Houston, Texas based manufacturer of electrical power control systems for the drilling industry. The company became known worldwide for its SCR (silicon controlled rectifier) systems, which convert AC generator power into controlled DC power for a rig's drilling motors. The operation was for a time part of Ansaldo Ross Hill, and in 1997 National Oilwell (today NOV) purchased the drilling businesses of Ross Hill Controls and Hill Graham Controls.
Core products include SCR drive systems and complete SCR houses, DC control modules, generator and power management controls, and related drilling control components. Large numbers of Ross Hill type SCR systems remain in service worldwide and continue to be supported with replacement modules and spare parts.
The equipment is used on land rigs, jack-ups, semi-submersibles, drillships and offshore drilling platforms.
